President's Message

Saunders Manufacturing has persevered for over 60 years on good old Yankee ingenuity, lots of hard work, and a product line steeped in tradition. However, as the great Yogi Berra once said, "You've got to be very careful if you don't know where you are going because you might not get there".

I am pleased to announce that Saunders is "going to get there" in 2008. We are committed to environmentally sustainable and socially responsible business practices in our processes, products, and packaging. Starting in January, our core products will be manufactured in the USA using recycled aluminum. Some facts about recycled aluminum:

  - Saunders annual usage displaces the equivalent of 51,000,000 beer/soda cans
  - 95% less energy used
  - 95% reduction in CO2 emissions compared to using virgin materials
  - Uses post-consumer waste materials
  - Uses post-industrial waste materials
  - Material is recyclable for future remanufacturing

In addition, the majority of our plastic and hardboard lines will be produced using reclaimed/recycled materials and we are taking steps to reduce the impact of our product packaging as well. This includes eliminating PVC in our plastic clamshells, switching to recycled cardboard for boxes and displays and reducing individual packaging to wraps printed with soy ink. Several product lines will also feature anti-microbial agents to protect the products from elements found in many work and school environments.

I am so pleased that we are able to implement these important changes that will provide consumers with the green products they desire and reduce our impact on the planet. We will continually look for ways to deliver the quality and dependability that our customers expect from us while simultaneously meeting our sustainability goals.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has supported us not only throughout 2007 but for many years. We welcome feedback from our customers and if you have questions about our new recycled line of products, or have business needs that we might be able to help craft solutions for, please do not hesitate to contact us. 2008 is just the beginning of great new green ideas and products coming to you from Saunders!

Best wishes,

John Rosmarin
